Annual Pioneer Days Dance Returns
Public Invited to Celebrate Tradition Friday and Saturday Night
Pioneers once celebrated local culture with Country and Western Dance and this year’s Guymon Pioneer Days Dance will keep that tradition alive.
The dance will be held following the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo both Friday, April 30, and Saturday, May 1 at the Guymon Elks Lodge off S.W. Fifth St. and Sunset, from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Everyone must be 21 and over to enter.
This year’s band, Insufficient Funds (NSF) from Amarillo, Texas, has been voted the Best Band by Amarillo Globe readers for five consecutive years, and seven years total! Band members include: Chuck Alexander, a Guymon native on Bass and Vocals, Mary Lyn Halley on Guitar and vocals, Vic Richardson on Drums and Dean Yates on Guitar and vocals.
NSF has been the opening act for such artists as Steve Wariner, Johnny Rivers, Jerry Jeff Walker, The Beach Boys, Robert Earl Keen and Creedence Clearwater.
The band’s music is sure to please a number of rodeo fans with everything from jazz, folk, soul, disco, R&B to good old country and classic rock. They love to play music for all ages, and every taste.
The band began in 1993 with Alexander, Halley and Yates playing together. They added Richardson as the drummer in 1997. They attribute their longevity to their “love of music and the friendship between them”. “It is not about us, it is about everyone else having a good time.”
The dance is sponsored by the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo Committee and the Oklahoma Arts Council.
